Fly Right on tour!

At long last - we have a new show and we’re taking it on tour!

Yes, folks.  We’ve been working on some new material which we’re going to be presenting at a series of ten shows at the end of October 2010.  The show takes a sidelong look at the history of original ballroom dances - what was going on in dancehalls before the days of competition and examinations.  We’re going right back to days before WWI, when social dance to the new-fangled Ragtime music was causing a furore amongst the great and the good, who were keen to ban this “unwholesome” activity! But you can’t keep a good thing down - the people literally voted with their feet (!) and dancing to modern tunes in large halls (or ballroom dancing, if you prefer) was born.

Gary and Susan will be demonstrating examples of these dances, like the Castle Walk and original Foxtrot, along with some more recent favourites, like the Charleton and Lindy Hop.  Along the way, they’ll be opportunities for some fun audience participation too. As well as some wee facts and historical backgrounds to the dance styles.
