HISTORY The Fly Right Dance Company is Scotland’s only professional dance company specialising in traditional Afro-American dance styles such as Ragtime, Charleston, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug and Jive. Following major performance successes in Scotland and the United States, the company incorporated in September 1998 and has charitable status. To summarise the kind of things we do:
WE PERFORM! One of Fly Right's principal aims is to offer dance performance opportunities to those who do not necessarily have a formal dance background. Our performance group, the members of which all have other "lives", travels all over Scotland to perform, demonstrate, and generally have fun! More....
WE TEACH KIDS & TEACHERS! The company has established itself at the forefront of dance education in Scottish schools with its extremely successful education programme, which provides children with a fun introduction to dance at school. We are also establishing a track-record for in-service programmes for teachers as well. More....
WE TEACH BIGGER KIDS! We've been teaching adults at lots of different venues, for almost 13 years, all over the country and abroad. Notably, we also offer classes at DanceBase, the National Dance Centre for Scotland. More....
WE'VE WON AWARDS! The company won a commendation in the Bank of Scotland Arts Award in 2001, recognising its skills in sponsorship management; was shortlisted for the FT Arts and Business Awards in the same year; and has been awarded a substantial grant through Arts & Business New Partners scheme for its partnership work with British Energy.
